Health experts are warning of a potential increase in Covid-19 cases this summer, driven by the emergence of FLiRT variants.
The term “FLiRT” refers to particular mutations found in these variants’ genetic makeup, according to CNBC. These variants are developing from the JN.1 variant, and one strain, KP.2, is becoming increasingly common. It has grown from accounting for 3.8% of all cases at the end of March to 28.2% by mid-May, just after it was first identified.
With the likelihood of rising Covid cases, in addition to standard safety measures like wearing masks in public and staying up to date with vaccinations, it’s also a good idea to boost your immune system.
Dr. William B. Miller Jr., an expert in infectious diseases and evolutionary biology, recommends maintaining a steady health routine all year to support your immune function.
“Health isn’t seasonal. You can’t just pay attention to it sometimes and ignore it at other times without affecting your cells’ ability to function properly,” Miller told CNBC Make It.
Miller also provides several tips on how to strengthen your immune system effectively.
