Exciting Findings: Ancient Grains For Type 2 Diabetes?

A new study in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases takes a deep dive into how ancient grains like oats, brown rice, buckwheat, and chia could be key to battling type 2 diabetes. The research, which looked at 29 randomized controlled trials and included a meta-analysis of 13, suggests that these grains might help improve diabetes outcomes, particularly by bettering lipid profiles.

However, the variety in research methods and the small number of participants in these studies mean we can’t jump to conclusions just yet—more research is definitely needed to confirm these promising results.

And while there’s a lot of focus on type 2 diabetes, the benefits of ancient grains for those with type 1 diabetes are still mostly unknown, pointing to a big gap in what we know and a huge opportunity for future studies.
