Harvard Neuroscientist Recommends 4 Foods Daily for Brain Health and Alzheimer’s Prevention

Your diet is essential for keeping your brain healthy and lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

As a Harvard-trained neuroscientist, I often recommend the MIND diet, specifically designed to reduce cognitive decline as we age.

This diet includes several important foods: berries, vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains, fish, and poultry. Following this diet even moderately can cut the risk of Alzheimer’s by 37%, studies show.

Here are four types of food I eat every day to support brain function:

Lean Proteins

Eating a lot of saturated fats can lead to health problems like high cholesterol and diabetes, which may increase Alzheimer’s risk. Eating red meat regularly can also contribute to more rapid cognitive decline. Instead, I eat a variety of lean proteins such as salmon, tuna, eggs, and tofu, which are rich in vitamins B and D, essential for fighting dementia.

Whole Grains

Rather than eating processed white bread or rice, I choose whole grain bread, brown rice, and quinoa. These grains are not only great sources of vitamin B but also help significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer’s. A recent study found that eating two servings of whole grains daily could reduce Alzheimer’s risk by 40%.
