Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is a key part of staying fit and healthy, but it’s equally important to ensure they’re free from harmful chemicals like pesticides.
Each year, the Environmental Working Group, dedicated to promoting a cleaner environment, releases a report named The Dirty Dozen. This report highlights the top twelve fruits and vegetables that carry the highest amounts of pesticides, based on investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration.
In their latest findings, a shocking 75% of all tested fresh produce was found to contain pesticides. However, the produce items on The Dirty Dozen list were even more contaminated, with 95% testing positive for pesticides.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, exposure to certain pesticides can lead to severe health issues, including miscarriages, birth defects, and cognitive problems in children.
Strawberries and spinach top the list for another year, noted as the most contaminated, while grapes have moved up to the fourth spot from last year’s eighth.
